pics or it didnt happen . nah i joke cool man. I dream of winning the lottery so i can build a jetta with s2000 running gear. that would be epicly cool. with a zender kit (drift cars must have aero cos it adds to the nasty factor in a bad way that is endearing for some retarded reason).
Just organised my crap for tomorrow. 2" raised top mounts sounds good to me yeah? |

Did you guys ever hear of Pippa Garner's Honda 600 pedal car? It was converted to a bicycle drivetrain and featured with an article on burning man in Car and Driver several years ago.
oh that reminds me. I like Civic EG's too. and integras. and the new Lexus LS |

ok so phase one of slamming the crap out of this thing. sorry for the shortness but i am tired and my friends are hassling for pics so i figured send them here to look.
paul decided on a nice way of raising the rear mounts that allows them to be undone and replaced as per stock ones. this meant we needed a big hole.
said hole
and the other side
this then got boxed up so that the original mount could effectively just be 'pushed' up about 1.5" into the body of the car
cut and bent the A arms to get both bushings parallel
animal decided to sand blast my newly bent A arms and we thought painting them gold might be funny. so we did.
whilst we were messing around with sparkly paint paul was again fabricating more rad stuff. this time my new top mounts, extended by roughly 2" i never actually measured them so i dunno.
top mounts are big. bonnet had to be notched to make it shut haha
stuff in place with my nice lug nuts (because im lazy and i hate putting wheelbolts in)
when off the lift the car sat pretty retardedly low. and was undriveable shame. cos it looked freakin awesome.
The coilovers as animal said were then wound up a bit so i could make the car move and the engine notched to fix this retarded griding noise i could hear. We packed up and left. The car was litterally dragging along the floor for most of the time it was moving. Which was epic haha. There was however still a retarded grinding noise coming from the car. So i pulled over (showering animal and paul in sparks from what they said haha) and explained that i needed to raise the car more in order to get home.
So paul left and i went with animal to his place so i could wind the coils up enough to get me home. Turns out my driveshaft notch isnt big enough anymore, so thats a bit of a fail, but not the end of the world.
This however didnt look so good
So we wound it up even more so i had clearance and i drove home. Tomorrow the grinder is coming out rain or shine and i will get it sitting where it should be |

Looks good n all, but I'll get to that later...
PLEASE go put some plate steel over the top, and bottom of your control arms before they break. I'd suggest cutting plates the size of the control arm, and drilling holes so they can be spot welded throughout the center raised area, then stitch, or seam welded on the edges.
I don't doubt your welding capabilities, but the metal the control arm is made of wasn't designed to be... well, it's early, and I'm not all that technical to begin with, but it wasn't designed to be in the shape you've made it into.
The original design was tested to withstand stress from all angles, but your new design threw a wrench in the works, and you never know where you'll find a week point. Maybe turning, maybe accelerating, maybe simple rotating as the suspension compresses.
At any rate, it's better to spend a few bucks and a couple hours making them bulletproof, then it is to drive until you find the weak point, and destroy yourself, and your car in a horrible, firey, bloodbath with blood n guts n spit n ass everywhere.
That said, nice work, the car looks great, nice work.
Another thing you may want to look into, that may be causing the grinding noise, is your axles... They're longer than they need to be, because at the factory height, they're at more of an angle.. Lowering the car to the point you have, may be putting stress on the differential, and the CV joints, as the axle is now more horizontal, between the knuckle and the trans, but the length hasn't changed... if that made any sense, at all.
If this doesn't make sense, I'll have to draw up a diagram, or come up with some way of describing it.... Anyway, the length of your axle doesn't change, but it now has less space to fit between. That should make sense.
I also vote for more, better photos. |

these A arms are pretty temporary and were welded along the sides aswell as the other parts aswell. the welder builds hotrod frames and stuff so i trust his judgement on this. having said that ill mention your opinion to him as you do have experience with similar retardedness
the grinding noise was my frame notch not being big enough. I do take note on the cv joint thing though, the motor could do with being raised a little to help with the driveshaft angle more than anything.
In the next couple months we intend to raise the front mount aswell which will enable stock arms to be used (but bent and braced at the end for the ball joint like you have done) with the raised front mount i will be able to use the little coilovers wound up and have some nice travel. but i gotta sort out the fuel lines and brake pipes.
also your broken fuel tank problem can be easily solved - audi 80 sport fuel tank is mounted behind the rear bench so is completely out of the way of the floor
better pics tomorrow afternoon i should think from our local meet thing, should be fun |

Raising your motor will only make the drive shaft issue worse... It may not be an issue, but if it becomes an issue, they're not too tough to section.
I looked at the old audi 4k tanks, they sit behind the seat in the trunk... I'm not sure I want my limited space taken up by a fuel tank, though.
Get pics, and do work! |

the 80sport tank is litterally part of the seat so it doesnt take too much boot/trunk space. ill get a pic of that tomorrow if snoop (ino what a name lol) is in his..
pics no good right now. its dark haha |

Hmm... I was thinking of turning the upper part of the rear seat into a speaker box.... Perhaps an in-seat fuel tank would be a better (Go over show ) route to take.
Just comtemplating the nightmare of fueling up....
You may be onto something, there...
Thanks. |

It's also up higher than the filler neck.... I'm thinking I'm gonna stick with fitting this 13.5 gallon tank under the seat area, or make the BOTTOM of the rear seat into a tank, of sorts. |
