I'm going to try to make it for at least one of the days, since it's only an hour and a half from here.

I'll be coming. hopefully bringing beatrice. definitely bringing the race car. PAL has talked about getting boris back to daily driver status, but he'll be coming with me either way. If there is even remote interest he'll be bringing his tattoo equipment, he has full sterilization stuffs, and is quite professional. He'll be doing work for me, if he hasn't already finished my back by then. oh, and all weekend is the plan.

PS stemiched, you really won't have to step it up too much; I can't afford to do much with mine. Though I will be the only green one in existence!

hmm, I'll see if I have any. I have a shiny blue ashtray from the rearseat of a gti, but dunno if i have the cover for the front ashtray. does anyone have this part number? I've got a better list by partnumber than by "what something actually is"

hey, um.. I have a stupidly large pile of parts, 1.6 and 1.9 short and long blocks, and various other bits and pieces. I'd rather not haul a dozen engines out unless there was some serious interest. is there any interest?

diesel of course.

OK let's say hypothetically that I could come out. How much money and trouble (time, skills) would it be to swap to diesel?

Edit: 1000 posts ftw!   Mr. Green

depends on how complete a swap you wanted for the drive home. I've got numerous engines, but injector pumps are scarce. I'm gonna be tinkering friday and hopefully get two engines running. if I had a set of head studs, we could try to get a third running.

how seriously do you wanna try swapping an engine in a weekend?
money: 100-1000 depending on what you kept, and what you needed.

time: doable, my cousin swapped diesel to gas, with a complete wiring harness swap friday-sunday.

difficulty: take your engine out, unbolt from tranny, remove flywheel etc, install on engine, attach tranny, put in your car. add a few wires, remove a bunch of wires.

i'm a slow tinkerer, but with all the mk1 people around I bet people could be talked into wrenching.

things you'd need to buy/bring/find from someone else: injector pump, mk1 diesel PS motor mount (unless someone can confirm that your gasser mount will work without grinding), diesel starter, the ones I have are "soso" and already promised to other projects.

i've got blocks ranging from 100 bucks to 500 bucks from cores to "ran when it was pulled" but my injector pumps are limited to
1 core 1.6TD ip > gotta send to giles when i have the $
1 fresh rebuilt 1.6 NA > dad paid 900 for it, it's sat for 2 years, after it had a couple hundred miles through it
1 NOS 1.6 NA > "borrowed" from the westmoreland plant, never been touched.
1 "ok" 1.6 TD > going in the racecar.

would you be interested in taking one home to rebuild at your leisure, or do you want/need to have something that you can throw in the car now?
