Hi everyone so i thought id do one of these build thread things. Heres a quick run down of my car.. It was  a 1.1 Golf C Formel E 1983

so i bought the car sometime last summer. it was in a pretty sorry state, but mostly solid apart from the rear arches being a bit on the rusty side.. but that didnt deter me so i bought it and slammed it on the ground right away (at this time i thought this was low). haha

shortly after i proceded on trying to find some suitable wheels for the car. i couldnt really afford anything super nice at the time so thanks to the guys at tidy i got hooked up with breeze an they got me a new set of g60s pretty speedy. that was pretty much it for the summer as i had to concentrate on getting a job and all that rubbish but this is what it was looking like in the sun

After this it was pretty much just a neglected beater to get to work.. until my 207k 1.1 decided to throw a pretty epic tantrum. so i managed to source a 1.3 polo engine quickly and locally and a few mates (and my dad) helped me out with the swap. The intention was to do it in the weekend and drive it to work on the monday. we failed. i hate electrics.

really really tired, dirty and sitting in my engine bay..

once it was finally in and working..

after we had (i really mean my dad had seeing as he was the one that sat reading the diagrams sorting out the stupid electronic ignition) sorted the electrics out i was finally driving it again and washed it a bit and enjoyed the car with my friends. one of them took this picture of it i like the horse lol.

in the snow (which was fun, not scary as the rest of england seemed to think   )

then i got my frame notched on friday at coltech classics. paul did a superb job pics are better than words..

before.

after (the car is at ride height in the photo)

on saturday i then decided to wind the coils all the way down on the front as i had to change my top mounts because they decided to explode.

oh i got a chrome grill the other day too..

thats all for now folks.   Very Happy

Provided your automobile is parked where it can be visually enjoyed, and you have something else to drive, correct.
...However, I was once at a point that the wheels wouldn't touch the ground (on flat ground, mind you), and it was the only thing I had to drive... so, yeah... you can be "too low", but you needn't worry, you've got a ways to go. Yeah Dude!

I like this car... the abundance of doors, the color, the height, and the wheels... it's cool.

Too ugly for the backyard, too classic for the scrapyard.
I'm so Euro, my car has presta valves.

so little update. today i was sat at work eating lunch in my car cos it was peeing it down with rain and i noticed that my passenger footwell drip had gotten a load worse (i mean real bad like water almost running in past the fusebox, not fun). naturally i was worrying about it all afternoon thinking 'oh crap its gonna fry my fusebox'.

thankfully the rain did stop for a few hours and didnt fry the fuse box. I shall be pulling the screen at mr coltechs workshop on friday for him to put my non rotten scuttle panel in so i can stop worrying. in the mean time its covered in duct tape which i hope will ward the rain off for the remainder of the week!

ill go get a picture for you all to witness the fitness of my taping.

All day i was thinking why have i got a rusty old car that leaks? When i drove home i remembered its because they are so fun, still love it and cant see that stopping..

The fuse box has been very cleverly located to intentionally direct splash away from your feet........

It's always scary finding holes that big hiding under things, but it's such a relief when they're fixed. Whew

As for the brakes, forget the booster, grab an extra pedal cluster and a master cylinder, and retro-fit it under the dash. Yeah Dude!
...Not the most specific directions, I know... but that's the cheapest, and most reliable way I can think of. They sell after market master cylinders... but you'd still be in the same boat trying to hide it under the dash... if you're only talking about all your RHD brake linkage, then I'd get the parts from a LHD car, brace the firewall, and rig somthin' up. Think

will the brakes not suck really bad without a servo/booster? i guess if i had a bigger master cylinder under the dash that would make up for the lack of booster? Ive got lots of time to get all the crap i need for it. Mk2 stuff any good? cos there is an abundance of them around here..

and yes the rusty holes were funny i forgot to take a picture before we grinded them back. it looked like there were only 2 little holes near the corner of the window!
